Joan Garvey and Lyne Burton founded Boomerang Kids in 1994. They were friends and soul mates looking for a less frenetic pace and for more time to spend with their husbands and children. They thought - why not start a small local business, where the focus would be kids and the community and where they could have some fun?
In August of 1994, they opened up a small shop specializing in children's and maternity consignment clothing in Old Ottawa South. They were completely unaware of the tremendous growth that would be theirs in the ensuing years. In 1997, they expanded their Bank Street location to include toys and books and other "treasures". They also decided to stock some new clothes and toys to provide a one-stop shop. Eventually bursting at the seams, they decided to expand; in 2003 they opened a second location at 261 Richmond Road in Westboro. In 2006, with their kids mostly grown and soon to become empty nesters - they switched focus to their new store Wag, an upscale cafe for pets and their owners. They ended an era in 2007, by selling Boomerang Kids to Genevieve Bonin, Krista Thompson and Heather Meek.
