Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I get cash for my items today?

A: Yes, we now offer total flexibility to our customers. We offer cash or store account credit when you sell us your high quality clothing and baby equipment. Or you can consign!

Q: Are you a consignment store? Or a buy-outright store?

A: We're both! It's all up to you, and what you prefer. You decide - Cash? Credit? or Consignment? And we'll make it happen.

Q: Can I drop and run for Cash and Credit?

A: Absolutely. You decide if you want to wait the 5-10 minutes it will take to process 20 items of clothing and/or equipment items. Or, you can come back in a day or two.

Q: What do I get paid when my consigned items sell?

A: You get 60% of the sale price on equipment, and 50% of the sale price on everything else.

Q: Some consignment stores pay only 40% of the sale price on items under $5.00. Some stores also add an additional fee to the price, and this fee isn't split with the consignor. Is this the case at Boomerang Kids?

A: You get 60% of the sale price on equipment, and 50% on everything else - no matter what the sale price is. We do not add a fee - you get a full percentage of the sale price of the item.

Q: I've been told about these Consignment Mega Sales where you get a higher commission. How does Boomerang compare?

A: The seasonal sales are a great option, if you are free leading up to or on that date, if you like doing the work of sorting, tagging and displaying yourself, and you have the time. What is your time worth to you? At Boomerang, we do all of the work for you, we're open every day, we have thousands of people through our stores each week to buy your items and you can drop and run anytime.

Q: Sometimes it only takes 1 week for my consigned items to be processed at Boomerang Kids - other times it takes over 2 weeks! Why does it take so long sometimes?

A: We have good news - we're processing clothes from between 2-days to 2 weeks max right now. But there are a couple of reasons for changes in processing times. First, we have traditionally taken more items per drop-off than any other consignment store. Second, during our busy seasons - Fall and Spring - we receive hundreds of bags a day from our consignors. To ensure all consignors have the opportunity to sell their items, we've recently adopted a 40-20-10 item policy. At the beginning of the fall or spring seasons, we'll take 40 items of clothes. By mid-season, we'll take 20 items, and at the end of the season, we'll take 10 items. Once your clothes get on the sales floor - they sell quickly because of the thousands of customers who shop in our stores.

Q: Are there new drop-off limits?

A: Yes. In order to allow all of our consignors to sell their items more quickly, we now have a 40-20-10 limit per drop-off for clothing in all of our stores. At the beginning of the season we take 40 items of clothing. By mid-season, we take 20 items, and by the end of the season, we take 10 items. We still allow 1 bag of toys per drop off, and there are no limits on equipment.

Q: Can I drop-off every day? Or every week?

A: We do not limit your equipment and toy drop-offs. However, during our busiest season (June - November), we ask that you drop off one bag of clothes, and then wait until that has been processed before you drop off your next bag of clothes.

Q: When do you take fall and winter clothes? Spring and Summer?

A: We start taking fall and winter at the beginning of June, and we start taking Spring and Summer at the beginning of December.

Q: Do you return items that you don't take?

A: Yes - any items we can't take, we will return. You also have the choice of donating these items to one of our local charities.

Q: Do you take "value-brands" like Bum, Teddy's Choice, Joe, Sesame Street and Fisher Price?

A: Yes - but we take much less of these brands than we take of favorite brands like Gap, Absorba, Gymboree, Catimini, Souri Mini,Elle, etc. Our customers aren't buying the value brands like they used to, mainly because these value brands are often on deep discount because of the state of our economy, and our customers can buy them new at nearly the same price as we offer them at resale. We don't take as much, because we don't want to disappoint you when they don't sell quickly - or don't sell at all.

Q: Why do you charge $2 if I don't pick up my return bag?

A: If you choose to have your items returned after we've processed your bags, we will call you and ask you to pick up these items within a week of us making the call. If you haven't picked them up within that week, then we donate these items to our charities, and we apply a $2 storage fee. The $2 storage fee is only applied if you've asked for items to be returned, and you don't pick them up by the 1-week deadline.

Q: Why do you return perfectly good items?

A: There are a number of reasons why we return items. Often times, we see a stain, tear or wear that you may not have caught. Many times, we don't take an item because it is no longer in demand in the stores. For instance, we are currently receiving numerous overalls - but they are no longer in demand. So while we receive them nearly new, or even new with tags - we don't always accept them, because there is limited demand.

Q: Why don't you take bunting bags or carseat bags?

A: Transport Canada has recommended that babies don't have thick fabric between their backs and the car seat. We therefore do not sell these items resale. We still take carseat covers that go over the top of the carseat if they are in mint condition.

Q: How do you ensure the items you sell are safe for use?

A: Unlike items you buy at garage sales, or even large school or community consignment sales, we check and double check items we sell in our stores against recall and safety and regulation listings. We also offer a 24-hour refund policy on our resale items.

Q: Can I return items to your stores?

A: Yes - you can return it, with a receipt to the store where you bought the item. Resale items may be returned within 24 hours of purchase. New items may be returned within 2 weeks of purchase.

Q: How do I know you have the resale equipment I want?

A: Many of our customers call us before them come in when they are looking for something specific. We then will help by calling all of our 4 stores to help find an item. We also work hard to make sure we have the equipment and clothing our customers want and need at any given time. You'll always find strollers, high chairs, playpens, etc., in each of our stores.

Q: Can you put me on a waiting list for an item I've been looking for?

A: We've tried to keep waiting lists in the past, and we found that both consignors and customers were frequently disappointed for a few reasons:

  1. We don't own the consigned items in our stores. If someone walks in and wants to buy an item - we feel that it is in the best interest of the consignor to offer a first come, first serve policy so that items sell quickly.
  2. Our stores are very busy. Since we are continually serving customers who are in our stores, we can't always keep track of everything that comes into the store several times a day against a waiting list.
  3. We have thousands of customers in our stores. The waiting lists became extremely long - and clients far down the list are continually disappointed.
